The Editorial Assistant Intern works closely with our editorial team, gaining valuable experience at a respected international publication. This internship provides an introduction to news magazine journalism and foreign reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Writing feature articles for our website
  • Monitoring our media partners and news agencies for items of interest
  • Conducting general and targeted research to enhance Transitions' content
  • Helping to develop new media and multimedia content; locating photos for use with Transitions content
Desired skills

Journalism experience (writing and/or editing); experience with new media (i.e. blogging / social networks); regional knowledge of Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and/or the former Soviet Union. We don't require any language skills, but any knowledge of languages of our coverage region — especially Russian — would be very welcome.

✱   Track 02

NGO Development Assistant

Area: Business, Marketing & Fundraising

Transitions is an international publishing and media-development non-profit organization based in Prague. As a public-service media entity, we're committed to using local voices to provide probing, informed coverage of post-communist Europe and the former Soviet Union. This internship provides an introduction to non-profit management, development (obtaining and managing grants), and fundraising. The intern gains invaluable experience with different donors and their requirements and is given a full introduction to project-cycle management.

Responsibilities
  • Writing new grant applications — budgeting and background research
  • Editing narrative reports by non-native project managers from our coverage region
  • Drafting grant interim and final financial reports according to donor requirements
  • Researching potential new donors
  • Exploring new methods of fundraising, including crowdfunding
Desired skills

High proficiency of oral and written English; good knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience in drafting reports / projects, fundraising, and administrative work.

Marketing / Social Media Intern

Area: Social Media, Marketing & Business Dev

Transitions has numerous opportunities for students interested in journalism, the media business, development, and marketing. This internship provides an introduction to business and marketing practices at an international publisher and training institution — as well as insights into social business and social entrepreneurship.

✱   Track 04

Business Development Assistant

Area: Business & Finance

Transitions is in the process of creating a new business plan for its flagship news site and journalism training institute. It's therefore a great time for an intern who wants to engage in hands-on, “real” business development over the course of the semester — and see their work put into practice. The intern reports directly to the executive director.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting targeted research for the business plan and collection of relevant data
  • Assisting in the creation of revamped business and financial plans, including presentation material
  • Assisting in the creation of marketing plans for the organization's products
  • Assisting in the creation of better income-tracking systems
